How to Generate a Bug Report for AI-Generated Code

  1. 1Describe the bug — explain the expected behavior (what the app should do) versus the actual behavior you observed. Be specific: include the exact feature, page, or function where the bug occurs and what output you received instead of the expected result.
  2. 2Add reproduction steps — list the exact steps to trigger the bug starting from a fresh state (e.g., "1. Open the app, 2. Click Login, 3. Enter test@example.com, 4. Click Submit"). The goal is that anyone can follow the steps and reliably reproduce the issue.
  3. 3Select severity level — choose Critical (app is down or data is lost), High (major feature broken but workaround exists), Medium (minor feature broken), or Low (cosmetic issue or edge case). Severity determines how quickly the team prioritizes the fix.
  4. 4Add environment details — specify the AI tool used to generate the code (Cursor, Bolt, v0, Replit), the browser and version, operating system, framework and version (e.g., Next.js 14, React 18), and any relevant environment variables or configuration differences.
  5. 5Copy the formatted report — the generator outputs a structured Markdown report with all sections filled in, ready to paste directly into a GitHub Issue, Jira ticket, or Linear task. No reformatting needed.
